This is the simplest sandwich of the bunch but somehow I had never thought about it. The combination of crispy fried baguette and bittersweet chocolate is perfect and needs nothing more than the little butter to fry the bread. You can also prep the sandwiches ahead of time so that you just need to fry them off to finish.

Fried Bittersweet Chocolate Bread – Recipe

Butter (salted or unsalted), softened
Baguette slices – as many as you want
Dark Chocolate – about 1/2 oz for each little sandwich, but more depending on taste and how big your slices are

  1. Break up your chocolate into pieces. If you are using thin bars you might not need to break them up much. If you use nice little baking chocolate pieces like I have you don’t need to break them at all. If you are working from big chunks, you will need to break it up into 1/4 – 1/2 inch pieces depending on shape.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of baguette.
  3. Arrange chocolate on the unbuttered side of every other slice of bread. Place the other slice of bread with the butter facing out on top of the chocolate.
  4. Fry the sandwiches over a strong medium heat until nicely browned on each side – about 4-5 minutes total.
